Paralympic Gold-medalist to appear at Cycle Expo Yorkshire
Paralympic gold-medallist and 4km pursuit world record holder, Steve Bate MBE, will be bringing his infectious personality and daredevil attitude to Cycle Expo Yorkshire this weekend.
The New Zealand-born British cyclist, will be joining Guy Kesteven for a sit-down talk as part of the weekends ‘Sofa Sessions’ which will also feature fellow ambassador Lizzie Deignan and World Record holder Neil Campbell.
After being diagnosed in 2011 with a degenerative eye condition, Steve adopted a ‘make every moment count’ attitude to life, where he began a series of immense adventures, starting with being the first visually impaired person to climb El Capitan’s 3,000 ft rockface solo.
His down to earth and humorous approach to his life and his sports accomplishments are both highly motivational and inspirational and will make his talk with Guy one of the most must-see events at the Expo.
Speaking on his disability, Steve said: “We all have obstacles in our lives: stuff that life throws at us, or barriers we put in ourselves. I’m trying to highlight that there’s not much that you can’t overcome, or at least work around, with the right mindset.
“Since my diagnosis in 2011, I've had some of the best moments in my life, just because I refused to let something stand in my way.”
